ROLL Models Call for Applications 2023

Calling women and non-binary people in Europe with a passion for skateboarding and a powerful idea to inspire the next generation!

For the fourth year in a row, Skateistan and Women Win are teaming up to support women and non-binary leadership in skateboarding.

The ROLL Models programme is designed to support and create visibility for diverse women leaders within skateboarding and to fund the projects they’ve designed — so that the next generation of girls and gender-diverse youth can build confidence, community, and life skills on and off their skateboards.

We’re currently seeking applications from women and non-binary people with project ideas that will use skateboarding to improve physical and mental well-being and promote gender equity. To be eligible, the project needs to include girls and non-binary people (aged 5-18) as the main participant group.

The ROLL Models programme is a unique opportunity for people with a passion for skateboarding to connect with and support each other.

Selected ROLL Models will receive:

  • A seed-grant of up to €3000 to fund their project idea
  • A place at our ROLL Models Leadership Camp in Berlin this summer (including travel and accommodation)
  • Support and guidance from Skateistan and Women Win

To be eligible to apply, you must:

  • Identify as a woman or non-binary, aged 18 or older
  • Be based in Europe (including the UK)
  • Have an idea for a project in Europe to empower girls through skateboarding (including WCMX)
  • Be available to attend an online programme co-design workshop in May 2023
  • Be available to attend the 5-day ROLL Models Leadership Camp in summer 2023

What’s new about the ROLL Models programme this year?

  • Applicants based in any European country can apply for the first time
  • There is no upper age limit for applicants (18+)
  • The project period is longer (projects can be carried out until September 2024)

How to apply:

  • Fill out our application form and send it by email to goodpush@skateistan.org with the subject line “ROLL Models Application”
    • Staff or volunteers of an existing non-profit organization can apply for the “Organization” category with a project budget up to €3000
    • The “Individual” category is open to applicants who are not affiliated with a registered non-profit organization, with a project budget up to €1500
  • Please refer to our FAQ sheet to see the key dates of the programme and for any questions you may have. If you don’t find your answer there, you can send an email to the above address

A total of €35,000 in grants will be awarded to the selected ROLL Models in 2023. The fund prioritizes projects which work with girls (ages 5-18) as their main focus group, however you may apply with a project that includes other target groups. We actively encourage applications from those who identify as trans, non-binary and all other underrepresented groups and communities such as black, indigenous, people of color, LGBTQI+, refugees, migrants and people living with disabilities.

Applications are now closed. The deadline to apply was 14 March, 2023.
