Topic: How social skateboarding initiatives worldwide are contributing to social justice and inclusion
In this 2024 SSHRED talk, Rhianon Bader and Ruby Mateja from Skateistan’s Goodpush Alliance present about the type of work they are doing with social skateboarding projects and what initiatives are planned for the near future. They give an overview on the scale, aims and activities of the global social skateboarding community, sharing specific examples of collective initiatives that promote social justice and inclusion through skateboarding, as well as gaps where skateboarding organizations and non-profits can do more. Rhianon shares about the history of Goodpush (and shares statistics on the overall social skateboarding sphere), as well as Pushing Against Racism, which is one of their recent projects. Ruby talks about inclusive skate communities and wellbeing through their ROLL Models initiative and a new project called the Open Boarders Network (for social skate projects working with displaced youth).
